Hinterland // @lukeckdavis Lightroom Preset Pack [Luke CK Davis]
Hinterland
'Hinterland' is a collection of presets I've developed over the course of my photography journey. Now I've always loved the look of film but have always appreciated the flexibility and consistency that digital provides and wanted to create a look that strikes a fine balance between the two. This is where 'Hinterland' steps in. These presets are designed to be extremely versatile, giving you a taste of those softer tones whilst still retaining all of the advantages that digital brings.
If you'd like to see these presets in action, head on over to my Instagram/Portfolio via the buttons below
The presets are as follows:
- Redwood - This is my go-to. My do-it-all. My ride or die. Loosely inspired by Portra 400, with it's sage-y greens and medium contrast, this is the first preset I try for at least 90% of my images.
- Hickory - Whilst not a million miles away from Redwood it does offer it's own unique flavour, with more yellow-y greens and purple-y blues. There's a certain warmth and 'softness' to Hickory that I can't quite put my finger on. All I know is that I love it.
- Maple - By far the most contrast-y preset in this pack. I'll be honest, it's not one I use all the time but when it hits, boooooooy does it hit. Best used in landscapes and flatter light.
- Sycamore - In contrast (heh heh... get it?) to Maple, this is the least contrast-y of the bunch. With it's faded tones and green colour casts, this is me leaning more into that faded film look.
- Aspen (B&W) - My go-to black and white preset. It's the softer of the two B&W presets and really excels in contrast-y scenarios.
- Ebony (B&W) - For when punch and contrast are the name of the game. With deeper blacks and richer whites, this is the one you want for when your B&W images need some H E F T.
A quick word of warning to those of you new to this... Presets are often not a one-click solution. Are there times where this can be the case? Absolutely. Instead, presets are typically designed to get you in the ballpark, with small adjustments needed to get you to your final image. My presets tend to run pretty bright, so exposure adjustments are often needed at the very least. Just something to bear in mind, as you best believe that I was burned by this when I was starting out.
These presets are compatible with Lightroom, Lightroom Classic and Lightroom Mobile, as well as Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop. Install instructions are included in the download.
